Online Safety

At Kells Lane Primary School, we are committed to providing a robust and progressive online safety curriculum that supports children to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. Our carefully sequenced curriculum ensures a balance of breadth and depth, combining planned lessons with opportunities to address relevant and emerging online safety issues as they arise.

We respond promptly to any online safety incidents within school, ensuring they are dealt with swiftly and in an age-appropriate way. While children are growing up surrounded by technology, we recognise that digital competence cannot be assumed and that explicit teaching of digital literacy and online risks is essential.

Alongside our digital literacy curriculum delivered through ProjectEVOLVE, we use Pol-Ed – A positive force in education to deliver online safety lessons linked to keeping safe. Regular staff training, assemblies and newsletter updates ensure that our whole school community remains informed and confident in promoting safe online behaviours.

Please find below a document detailing which apps and websites are regularly used in each year group throughout the academic year. Please note this list is not exhaustive and the children will access other subject-specific information on the Internet which has been checked and approved by the class teacher:

Online Safety Curriculum

Through ProjectEVOLVE, we deliver key online safety messages while supporting children’s wider growth and development. As children explore the online world more freely, the programme helps them understand what is appropriate, ethical, lawful and how to make positive choices online.

At Kells Lane Primary School, we cover the eight strands of ProjectEVOLVE across all year groups from EYFS to Year 6. They are as follows:

  • Self-Image and Identity
  • Online Relationships
  • Online Bullying
  • Health Wellbeing and Lifestyle
  • Privacy and Security
  • Copyright and Ownership
  • Managing Online Information

Although online safety is taught discretely at least once per half term, at Kells Lane Primary School we ensure that ProjectEVOLVE is revisited and used alongside Pol-Ed resources to offer support and guidance for any incidents that may arise within our local community over the course of the year. These lessons will ensure that we cover many of  the objectives outlined in the Government document – Education for a Connected World.
